A city court has directed the Delhi police to lodge a criminal case against a private school for allegedly demanding money from parents for admission of their children to nursery class.
The court also pulled up the cops for not taking any action on the complaint.
Metropolitan magistrate Naveen Kashyap ordered for registration of FIR against the authorities of the east-Delhi based school, including its chairman, saying, "The Station House Officer (SHO), police station Anand Vihar, is thus directed to register an FIR within one week in the present case and file compliance report on the next date of hearing."
The complaint also alleged that a national news channel had aired a sting operation on January 31 this year regarding the school illegally demanding Rs. 50,000 in the name of a building fund.
The court has fixed October 30 for compliance of its order and further proceedings.
Criticising the police for refusing to register an FIR, the court said the police officer is bound to register the information in relation to a commission of a cognisable offence and its his "absolute duty".
