Senior police officers confirmed that a case of kidnapping had been registered at Karol Bagh police station.

"The boy's father is posted as a station house officer (SHO) in south Delhi. It seems to be a case of a missing minor; we are certain he will return of his own accord soon," said a senior police officer.

Sources claimed the boy's father had received a phone call that "initially seemed to be a ransom call", but upon verification, senior officers confirmed that it was not one.
