A six-year-old girl, the daughter of a rickshaw puller, was allegedly assaulted and raped by an unknown assailant in southwest Delhi, the police said. "The incident was reported from Dwarka's Durga Park area this morning. A passerby alerted us after the crying girl was found in the bushes
along a roadside," said a senior police officer, requesting  anonymity.

According to the police, the victim who had visible head injuries, was taken to an adjacent hospital where a medical examination confirmed that she was sexually assaulted as well.

"Prima facie, it seems that the victim was raped and before the assailant hit her on the head with a blunt object which made her unconscious. He then seems to have left the place thinking that she would bleed to death. Initial investigation revealed that the victim had gone missing while playing outside her house on Wednesday evening," said the officer.

"Her father is a rickshaw puller and stays with his family at a rented accommodation in Sagarpur. We have registered a case and are looking for the accused," the officer added.
