Sonia asks Cong MPs, MLAs to donate salary

Congress president Sonia Gandhi has directed all party MPs and MLAs to donate a month’s salary for relief work in flood-hit Uttarakhand.

The party has also asked its MPs to divert Rs. 10 lakh each from their local area development funds for the relief operations, party’s communication department chief Ajay Maken said on Friday.

The UP unit of the BJP has already asked its MLAs to donate salary for the victims. Lok Sabha secretariat too, may contribute one day’s pay of all officials to the PM relief fund.

While the Congress-run state government of Uttarakhand is grappling with the crisis, the Congress has decided to garner additional help from its other state units.
