A specially designed keyring has come to the rescue of residents of west Delhi's Janakpuri, where incidents of theft and burglary had become frequent.

To curb crime, the Delhi Police have designed a key ring with the help of the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) and distributed it.

The ring has a logo of the Delhi Police and RWA.

It helps to stop unauthorised entry into the colony and as a result incidents of vehicle theft and burglary have come down.

"The keyring confirms that vehicle coming in or going out belongs to a resident of the area.

This also restricts outsider's entry as colony guards allow only those cars, which have the key ring.

The ring has been distributed to 400 families after verification,” said V Renganathan, additional CP (west).

For security guards it is easy to identify if someone else apart from the owner is taking the car out of the colony.

There are nearly 400 families who live in D-2A block of Janakpuri D block and with the help of RWAs police have initiated several safety measures.

Following these measures almost no major incident of theft has taken place in the area. The police are planning to extend the initiative to other parts of the Capital too.

"We had a meeting with the police to discuss what residents can do to ensure that the colony is safe from criminals. They came up with the idea of sticker for cars and keyrings for each car.

Now we are planning to install 32 cameras near the colony gates to add to the existing security system," said Rahul Sharma, vice president of RWA.
