The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has begun preparations for the mega mock drill to be held in the city on Tuesday. The agency has planned a tabletop exercise that will see the participation of several RWAs, students and officials.
The exercise will be held at the Yamuna Vihar sports complex. The idea is to create awareness about the mock drill and to answer any queries from the people related to it.
While preparing for the mock drill, the DDMA had held a trainers' programme for all the emergency responders who will be participating in the exercise.
Over the past two years, a number of mock drills have been organised by the authority. This time round, the focus of the drill will be on hospitals and educational institutes at 34 locations.
“The scale of the preparatory meetings used to be very small earlier. But over 2,000 people will participate in the drill tomorrow,” said a senior DDMA official.
The basic purpose of this exercise is to assess and improve the capacity of emergency responders in case of disaster situations.
DDMA officials said national experts from different parts country and from USA's Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh and Oregon are training the participants.
“Our experts have been holding several workshops with schoolteachers and doctors to prepare for the mock drill. Nearly 600 officials have been trained for this purpose. These include medical superintendents, surgeons, nursing administrators, paramedics, public health professionals, senior educators, school and college administrators,” said a senior DDMA official.
