A harassed south Delhi resident thought up an ingenious way to corner a property consultant and send him to jail.
Amit Jain, who was constructing a house in south Delhi's Yusuf Sarai, decided to conduct a sting operation to prove that the consultant was extorting money from him. On the basis of the sting operation, the accused, Sanjeev Chaudhary, was arrested.
To hobble Jain's construction work, Chaudhary had made several complaints to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other civic agencies, and also moved the court.
"Chaudhary had filed a petition in court against Jain's plans for construction. During hearings, Jain filed an affidavit along with two CDs, alleging that Chaudhary and his father had demanded money from him and the conversation has been recorded in the discs. The court then asked the crime branch to investigate the matter," Sanjay Bhatia, additional deputy commissioner of police (crime), said.
The CDs were sent for forensic tests that confirmed that they were genuine. An FIR was filed against Chaudhary. Jain told the police that soon after he started the construction, Chaudhary began demanding R25 lakh from him. He threatened him that he would get his building demolished.
The petition filed by Chaudhary in the court was disposed off.
