A large number of senior citizens who draw pension from the Delhi government have been found “missing”. The fact came out in a recent survey carried out by the social welfare department.

According to officials, the department has so far surveyed about 80% of the 4 lakh beneficiaries and has found almost 40,000 missing.

“Many of them might have died or might have shifted their residence. At the same time, there is a possibility that some of the beneficiaries never existed. We have issued a circular and asked the beneficiaries to submit their documents, including address and aadhaar number. Those who fail to respond would be deleted from the list,” an official said.
