Senior Delhi government officials said a special task force is being constituted that will conduct surprise checks on factories and workshops to look into the fire safety measures in place.

Officials said the task force will be authorised to take punitive action against violators.

"The task force will have representatives of the MCD, fire services and Delhi Police. It will conduct exercise to check adherence to fire safety norms by industrial units," Delhi labour minister Ramakant Goswami said.
