A 17-year-old was shot by two bike-borne assailants, allegedly after a recent tiff triggered by his friendship with another boy, at west Delhi's Ranhola, police said on Wednesday.

The victim, a resident of Najafgarh and a student of class twelve, had allegedly fallen out with his attackers over the issue of staying with another friend on January 6, he told the police in a written complaint.

"I had been threatened with dire consequences by them to stay away from the other person - with whom I share an accommodation,"  quoted an officer from the complaint. The victim also lends money as a side business.

Late on Tuesday evening, apparently after they got wind of his not following their diktat, they rode up to him and shot him. He was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital after he managed to make a PCR call. A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Ranhola Police Station.
