At a time when the Delhi Traffic Police personnel are grappling with various traffic travails ahead of the Commonwealth Games, here's some good news to cheer up them up. Following its recent foray into the social networking site Facebook, the traffic police has been certified as the most
active brand in India. A study conducted by Iffort, an India-based strategy and social media consulting firm, which was released on Wednesday, declared Delhi Traffic Police and MTV India as the most active and popular brands respectively.

Iffort recently conducted a similar study on brands, using  Twitter, another popular social networking site.

Iffort Consulting selected and reviewed Facebook fan pages of 25 select brands from several industry verticals, including media, consumer durables and publishing for over a month.

“We analysed these 25 brands on various criteria to understand their efforts to build interaction with their target audience through Facebook. In this context, we considered the Delhi Traffic Police as a "brand" due to their commendable public interface through Facebook, which is generally expected from a brand. We kept an eye on the posts of the brands for over a month and found average 13 wall posts from the administrator of Traffic Police in a day. This is really amazing," said Daksh Sharma, director, Iffort.

Through posts, an administrator replies to the queries of users besides providing information on traffic jams, under-construction roads and department's new initiatives.

Ajay Chadha, special commissioner of police (Traffic), who was instrumental in conceptualising the idea of policing via social networking, said: “Connecting with people through social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter helped us improve traffic management system. People’s suggestions help us improve our functioning. We have been successful in bringing down rates of traffic violation with the help of our Facebook friends. Today we have around 28,000 Facebook friends,” said Chadha.

“Following Delhi Traffic Police, Mumbai and Chennai traffic police have also joined Facebook,” said a Facebook official.
