Traffic on several of Delhi’s arterial roads came to almost a standstill on Thursday following a hours-long face-off between about 300 protesters and the police near India Gate.

In a bid to restrict the protesters from walking down to India Gate, traffic police had imposed restriction on the movement of vehicles on some roads leading to India Gate in central Delhi.

Around 2pm, traffic police put in place barricades restricting traffic movement on Dr Zakir Hussain Marg, Pandara Road, Humayun Road and Shahjahan Road and diverted all vehicular traffic. Hundreds were stuck on their way towards central Delhi.
