The Centre is planning to develop two new rapid rail transit corridors - Delhi-Rohtak-Hisar and Delhi-Baraut via Shahdara - in addition to previously announced Delhi-Alwar, Delhi-Meerut and Delhi-Panipat lines.

"We have today approved two rail corridors which are Delhi-Rohtak upto Hisar and the second is Delhi-Shahdara- Baraut," said Kamal Nath, urban development minister.

The decision was taken following a meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna, Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Uttar Pradesh government minister Abhishek Mishra.

"We had a dedicated meeting for the Regional Rail Transport system. We talked about three corridors - Delhi-Alwar, Delhi-Meerut and Delhi-Panipat. Because of development, the population of Delhi is increasing and there was consensus that means of transport have to developed from the small towns to Delhi for better connectivity," said Nath.
