Reportedly unhappy with the posting he had been given, a serving major general of the Indian Army committed suicide at his house in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka on Friday.
The victim, identified as Rajpal Singh, was posted as additional director general (ADG), National Cadet Corps (NCC) in Patna, Bihar in September 2011 and was scheduled to retire on August 31.
While police sources said Singh was depressed as he was not given his desired posting, Army sources said it was a case of marital discord.
A suicide note was recovered in which Singh expressed disappointment with his posting.
AK Ojha, additional CP (southwest), said “We have taken the note into possession and are investigating the matter. He was depressed due to professional reasons.”
A senior police officer said that Singh’s wife found him hanging from the ceiling fan at their flat in Jaya Apartments in Dwarka Sector-5.
Police are also speaking to the officer’s family to ascertaining whether there were any other reasons behind his extreme step.
Singh had come to Delhi on vacation a couple of days ago and was scheduled to go back to Patna next week.
