Robert Vadra’s estranged father Rajendra Vadra was found dead in a guesthouse in Yusuf Sarai Friday morning. Police said Vadra was found hanging from the ceiling fan. He was taken to a hospital which declared him dead on arrival. Vadra had been staying at the guesthouse, Citi Inn, for the
past two years. A room attendant found him hanging from the fan at around 11 am. The body was handed over to the family after the mandatory postmortem.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi, who is married to Robert Vadra, were present for the cremation at the Lodi Road crematorium.

This is the third tragedy in Robert Vadra’s family. His sister Michelle Vadra died in a car crash in April 2001. Younger brother Richard Vadra killed himself two years later in 2003. And now father Rajendra Vadra.

No police officer was available to give such details as the reason for the suicide or if Vadra had left behind a suicide note. Messages left on their mobile phones went unanswered. And the spokesman said he had no information to share.

The guesthouse staff were also not available for comments.

“No one is answering our calls. We checked in around 2 pm and the staff even did not take advance money from us,” said a guest who refused to give his name.

Police sources said Vadra was suffering from cirrhosis of liver and had undergone treatment for cirrhosis at the Max Hospital in Saket and was discharged about 12 days ago. Vadra was in his sixties and ran an export business till some years ago.
