Pooja Soni — the Class 12 student who drew a blank in two subjects while scoring high marks in other subjects in her board exams — has come out with flying colours after she re-appeared for tests in the ‘failed’ papers.

Taking it as a special case, CBSE conducted re-examination for the papers as her previous answersheets were blank. The CBSE had claimed that she had used ‘vanishing ink’ while her parents suspected foul play.

Soni scored 92 and 89 in accountancy and economics, respectively. She had re-appeared for two subjects on May 20 and 21.

“I am extremely happy with my results. I was tensed but never lost hope. I was also nervous as my future was at stake,” said Soni, a student of Amity International School, Sector 44 Noida.

Earlier, she had ‘scored’ a zero in accountancy and economics.

The board has decided to issue her a provisional marksheet. Soni claimed that the board officials told her that she used some ‘high-tech’ ink which vanished, leaving her answer sheets blank. The board had decided to send her papers for forensic investigation earlier.

CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi did not respond about the reports despite HT’s repeated phone calls and messages.

On May 27, HT had reported about 18-year-old Soni scoring zero in two subjects. Her scores were: English 81, mathematics 95, business studies 66, accountancy practical 20 (out of 20), economics 0 and accountancy theory 0. She had scored 98 in economics in the pre-boards.

Her parents are also happy. “She will now prepare for CA,” said Vijay Soni, her father.
