The grievously injured domestic help rescued from a Vasant Kunj flat earlier this week will be sent to her home in Jharkhand after she is discharged from hospital.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which is keeping a close tab on the case, is working on a rehabilitation plan for the girl.

The commission has asked the Jharkhand government to ensure that she is admitted to a local school as she wants to study. "She is keen on meeting her mother, who will come early on Friday," said Vinod Kumar Tikoo, a member of the commission. The girl's condition has improved significantly since she was brought to Safdarjung hospital.

"She feels education will improve her life. She wants to study and we have instructed the Jharkhand government to take care of her. She was treated very badly and a meeting with her mother after three years will help her," Tikoo added.

"She was not speaking much initially as she was traumatised. After interactions with counsellors, she seems to be opening up," said Rishi Kant of the NGO Shakti Vahini. Her mother will reach the city around 4am on Friday, and a representative of the Jharkhand government is supposed to go to receive her and bring her to Safdarjung hospital.

As the confusion over the girl's age continues, a bone ossification test was conducted on Thursday.

However, forensic experts warned that the test only gives an age range and is not accurate.
