The CPI(M) today said violence in Tibet was an "internal matter" of China. "The government of India recognises Tibet to be an integral part of China. The government has also said that they would allow the refugees to stay in the country. This policy has been there even before the Dalai
Lama came to India and we have been supporting that stand," senior party leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters in New Delhi.

Responding to a spate of questions on the issue, he said "There have been disturbances in Lhasa. I can only say that it is an internal matter of China".

He asked if some country speaks about Kashmir "how do we react to that. We say it is our internal matter and we do not agree with such interference in our internal affairs".

When asked about the recent US State Department report which referred to Nandigram, he said the central government had taken a stand saying it was an internal matter of India.

"Do we comment on how the American administration treats its own people," he shot back to the questioner.
