Those with dual voter cards may face action from April 30. Criminal prosecution against 14.5 lakh voters, who had failed to report to the office of deputy commissioners for the cancellation of one card, had to start by April 10.

However, the chief electoral office has extended the deadline by 20 days. It has also relaxed the norms and the defaulters can now visit the nearest returning officers instead of DC offices.

Mukesh Sharma, parliamentary secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, said “The CEO of election commission has allowed our requests. He is working on a software to facilitate cross-checking of registered voters in Delhi and nearby cities.”

As many as 14.5 lakh voters on the Capital electoral roll were found to be non-existent during a survey by the office of chief electoral officer.
