A 23-year-old married woman has complained to the police that  she was raped in a car a few kilometres from the Bangla Sahib Gurdwara in central Delhi, where she had gone to pray for her ailing daughter.

She was an unwitting victim who took a lift in the car, according to her FIR registered at the Connaught Place Police station. The incident occurred in the evening of May 4. The victim approached the police after she recovered from the shock four days later. The FIR was registered on Friday.

DCP (New Delhi) Anand Mohan said investigations were on. The victim described the suspect as a man in his mid-30s. He drove a grey car, the registration number of which she has given in the FIR.

According the victim, the suspect offered her a lift to her home in Shalimar Bagh after following her from the gurdwara. After a 10-minute drive, the suspect assaulted her in the car at a desolate place. He then pushed her out of the car and sped away, the FIR said.
