In an unusual end to a motor accident claims case, a court has allowed the matter to be settled after the accused agreed to the complainant's demand for donating 400 blankets to the poor.

Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) presiding officer Ankit Singla said, "The complainant (Gupta) submits that he can settle the matter with the accused (Ruchi Ahuja) if she donates 400 blankets to the poor."

The complainant, Devender Gupta, was allegedly hit by a Maruti Wagon R car, rashly driven by the accused, near Saket court red light in January this year as he was riding his motorbike back home.

Gupta had told the court that he will settle the matter if the accused agreed to fulfill his demand of distributing blankets to the poor.

"The accused agreed. In such circumstances both parties are directed to appear before the court on February 16," the court said.

During the proceedings, Gupta told the court that he would not have registered the case against the woman had she rushed him to the hospital, instead of running away.

Saying that Ahuja didn't apologise to him in the trial, Gupta said, "It (accident) could've been a mistake but I did this so that she won't repeat it in future."
