Suspecting his eight-month pregnant wife of having an illicit relationship, Mobin Akhtar stabbed victim Shadab Parveen (35) on Saturday morning. He then tried to cover up his act under a loot ploy. The two were living in a rented accommodation in Sector 22.
“Akhtar has a business of tent and decoration. On Saturday, around 7am, Akhtar dropped his five-year-old son) Moin Akhtar at school. After dropping him, he returned home and had an argument with his wife following which he stabbed her,” said a senior police officer.
To make the murder look like an incident of loot, Akhtar cleaned the blood stains on the floor and broke open the almirah and a suitcase. Khalil Ahmed, brother of the deceased, said, “He came with his son to our house at Mandawali in Delhi. He told us that someone tried to loot his house. When Parveen resisted, she was murdered by the assailants. Smelling a foul play, I went to his Sector 22 house along with him and informed the police. The door was opened after the police reached the spot and we found Parveen dead.”
There were multiple stab injuries on Parveen’s body. The police have sent the body for a post-mortem and have registered an FIR at the Sector 24 police station. “We have arrested Akhtar. He has confessed to the crime. The deceased’s family claims that Parveen was killed for dowry,” said Vishwajeet Srivastava, deputy superintendent of police.
