The Maoist attack in Aurangabad on Wednesday has proved costly. While a sixth man was found to have died — a bus driver, whose death was later confirmed — the rebels have looted 30 firearms belonging to the forces.

On Thursday, accepting responsibility for the attack, a Maoist spokesperson said it was in retaliation to the state government’s Operation Greenhunt. He claimed they have managed to take away 3 AK-47s, 11 SLRs and 16 INSAS rifles.

Two private security personnel and three jawans of the Special Auxilliary Police (SAP) had been killed in the attack.
