Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar has 'clarified' that his statement about supporting any party or combination at the Centre that backs a special status for Bihar was made in the context of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

He said here late on Thursday that his statement at a public meeting in Saharsa in north Bihar a day earlier was not meant to be read in the context of the crisis of numbers being faced by the UPA government following the withdrawal of support by the Trinamool Congress.

"What I said was in the context of the 2014 elections. No government at the Centre can be formed without Bihar's support. This is why nobody can ignore the demand for special category status for Bihar," Kumar said.
