A major disaster was averted at the Patna Junction when fire tenders prevented the situation from getting out of control after a general bogie of Ernakulam-Patna Express caught fire at around 10:20pm on Wednesday night. The fire completely gutted the bogie. No person, however, was injured in the incident, which took place about 45 minutes after the arrival of the train on platform number six of Patna Junction.

One conventional bogie of Buxar Patna passenger train, stationed next to the Ernakulam express, also caught fire. A van of the fire brigade, which was pressed into service, however, could not save the Ernakulam Express bogie from burning down as some inflammable material, including plastic bottle, medical equipment, books, etc, were kept in it.

Meanwhile, DRM, Danapur Division, LM Jha arrived at the station and took stock of the situation. "It is still not clear how the bogie, which was stationed on the platform for about an hour after departure of all passengers, caught fire. A team of railways officials will investigate if the bogie caught fire due to human error or some other reasons. We will also try to ascertain why the inflammable material were kept in the bogie," the DRM said.
