While Bihar CM Nitish Kumar is busy waging a war on corrupt officials in the state, a senior police officer entrusted with stemming corruption has been arrested for stealing.
On Tuesday, a team led by vigilance SP Parvez Akhtar arrested DSP CP Paswan from his official residence
for his alleged involvement in withdrawing
Rs. 5.1 lakh through seized ATM cards.
On August 11, Vaishali district manager of Bihar State Food Corporation, Manoj Kumar, was arrested while accepting Rs. 1.5 lakh as bribe. Kumar had repeatedly petitioned the vigilance department through court, that money was being withdrawn from his accounts with the help of his ATM cards.
An internal inquiry was launched and it came to light that Kumar’s ATM cards hadn’t been listed among the seized items.
CCTV footage from the ATM kiosks led to the arrests of constable Prakash Kujur and computer operator Premjeet Kumar. The duo confessed they were working on the orders of Paswan and two of Kumar’s ATM cards were recovered from Kujur’s house. Kujur and Kumar gave a statement in court that Paswan would accompany them while they withdrew money.
