This was how Ruchika Girhotra's friend Aradhana Gupta reacted to the enhanced prison sentence to disgraced IPS officer SPS Rathore awarded by a Chandigarh court.

Aradhana, the childhood friend of Ruchika who was molested by Rathore 19 years ago when she was just 14 years old, said he considered the verdict as a victory since Rathore has already been put behind bars.

"When the first verdict (in which Rathore was sentenced to 6 months in prisons) came, I could feel that Ruchika was smiling but today I feel she must be at some peace as that is what she wanted," Aradhana, who is currently settled in Sydney, told PTI.

"I'm happy though am a little disappointed at the one and a half term sentence that has been given. I was expecting more for such a crime," she said.

"Certainly it means a lot. Its the first time this man will be jailed. In 19 years the judiciary has taken side of truth. So I feel its a victory for people. The common man has won over the influential people," Aradhana said.

She said her family and Ruchika's parents were fighting for the past 19 years and they did not want Rathore to move freely after "committing such a crime."

"We are taking it as a first step towards justice and certainly the case under Section 306 IPC (abatement to suicide) and other charges against him are yet to come up.

"Rathore will be punished for whatever crimes he has committed in these years, harassing the Gihrotra family and ruining the career of victim's brother," she said.

"This is something positive that has happened.. I m very happy," she added.

Aradhana said her friend Ruchika wanted to expose that Rathore was a "disguised wolf."

She said before taking the extreme steps her friend had told her two things -- the accused should be exposed before the public and punished.

Aradhana also lauded the role of media in help putting such a person of criminal record behind bar.

She said Ruchika's family was also satisfied on the judgement passed today.
