The sultan of satire, Jaspal Bhatti, was killed in a road accident on Thursday. He was 57.

Bhatti — the man behind shows such as Ulta Pulta — was in a car driven by his son Jasraj when it lost control and rammed a tree near Shahkot. Deputy superintendent of police Mukhvinder Singh told HT Jasraj, an actor, probably dozed off after a hectic day promoting his film, Power Cut.

Jasraj and his co-star Surilie Gautam were saved by the air bags. Bhatti was in the rear with the film’s publicity manager, Navneet Joshi, who is critical.
