JALANDHAR: Former cabinet minister and Bholath MLA Bibi Jagir Kaur, on Sunday, honoured inspector general (prisons) Jagjit Singh in a religious function held at modern jail, Kapurthala, where she is undergoing five-year rigorous imprisonment for forcibly conducting the abortion of her daughter Harpreet Kaur.

Incidentally, the same IG had given a clean chit to the jail authorities after conducting an inquiry into charges that they had given “VIP treatment” to Bibi Jagir Kaur after she was brought to Kapurthala prison.

Jagir Kaur, who is also the head of Dera Sant Baba Prem Singh Muralewale, honoured IG Jagjit Singh and jail superintendent SP Khanna in the presence of several Akali leaders.

Talking to HT, Jagjit, however, claimed that the function was organised by a committee of prisoners. “She felicitated the jail officers on prisoners’ behalf. We are treating her just like we treat other prisoners,” he said.

Kapurthala councillor Harbans Walia, SGPC member Jathedar Jarnail Singh Dogranwala, former SGPC member Bibi Bhajan Kaur Dogranwala, former Kapurthala councillor Manmohan Singh Walia, Begowal councillors Anoop Singh and Joginder Singh, and Akali leader Paramjeet Singh Raipur were among those who attended the function.
