Haryana police arrested Basant Singh alias Bunty and his accomplice Sarita Rani from a hotel in Paharganj area of New Delhi early on Sunday morning.

Basant, a suspended UT constable, is a prime accused in the murder of Chandigarh police Inspector Sucha Singh and two persons in Sonipat. He was nabbed by a team of Haryana Police after receiving a tip-off regarding his whereabouts on Saturday.

Haryana IGP (Rohtak Range) Anil Kumar Rao said Basant Singh was on the run after shooting Sarita’s husband (Sandeep) and her mother-in-law (Roshini Devi) with his service revolver on April 18 in Sonipat.

The IGP said Basant was in love with Sarita, who had been married to Sandeep for just three days when the constable attacked and killed the mother and son.

Basant allegedly killed Traffic Inspector Sucha Singh and injured a constable when he was spotted and questioned by them on Saturday. Sonipat police had announced a reward of R1 lakh for providing information on Basant. Both have been remanded to judicial custody.
