In gun-crazy Punjab, a man has bought ‘AK-0047’ vehicle registration number for a whopping Rs. 7 lakh.

What is more interesting is that Kulbir Singh of Kattowal village would display this number — for the time being — on his Activa scooter as he is yet to buy his dream luxury car Toyota Fortuner. The auction was held by the transport department on Tuesday at the Zila Parishad hall to sell fancy numbers of ‘PB 07 AK’ series.

Later, Singh told reporters that he already owns two sedans but would keep the latest fancy number for a Fortuner. He outbid 15 other aspirants. The bid started from Rs. 3,000.

The number PB 07 AK-0001 went for Rs. 2.10 lakh. It was bought by one Yadwinder Singh of Chandigarh. ‘0007’ number was auctioned for Rs. 1.50 lakh and ‘0009’ for Rs. 1 lakh.
In all, the transport department raked Rs. 24 lakh from the auction.

PS Gill, the district transport officer, asked all the successful bidders to deposit the money within a week to get their desired registration numbers.
