Bhanwari Devi, 36, went missing under mysterious circumstances on September 1. Her body is yet to be found.

Some burnt bones and a tooth were also recovered from the Rajiv Gandhi Canal at Jaloda village, around 100 km from Jodhpur, where Bhanwari Devi’s body was allegedly abandoned. The CBI has sent the bones and tooth to New Delhi’s CFSL for DNA testing.

Rajasthan minister Mahipal Maderna and legislator Malkhan Singh Bishnoi are among the 12 people arrested in connection with the case so far.

Bhanwari Devi allegedly had in her possession sex CDs showing her with the two political leaders and was blackmailing them.

According to the CBI, Maderna hired hit man Shahabuddin and his gang to carry out the kidnap and murder. They then handed over her body to another gang led by Bishna Ram Bishnoi who burnt the body in a pit outside Jaloda and scattered the remains in the canal.
