140 rescued from avalanche-prone area in J&K

The police on Saturday claimed to have rescued 140 civilians, who were stuck in an avalanche prone area in south Kashmir Kulgam's district.

According to police spokesperson, 140 civilians, comprising of 50 children, 45 males and 45 females, were rescued from Waltengu Nard on Saturday.

"A rescue operation was launched last evening in Waltengu Nard in tehsil Qazigund, which is prone to snow related casualties and property loses. The operation was suspended last night and was launched this morning under the supervision of Kulgam SP Mohammad Shafi," said the spokesperson.

Top police officers of district Kulgam supervised the day long operation.
