One CRPF jawan was killed and another injured in two separate militant attacks in Kashmir valley since Wednesday morning.

CRPF spokesman Sudhi Kumar told Hindustan Times that militants attacked a CRPF camp on the Bemina by-pass road in Srinagar around 2:30am on Wednesday. The militants apparently fired from an adjacent lane where several vehicles were parked.

“A CRPF constable Praveen Singh Rajput received injuries in the attack. He died on the way to hospital,” said Kumar.

According to the CRPF spokesman, the constable was manning a bunker and had retaliated to the militant fire. Bemina houses CRPF’s 73rd Bat
talion’s e-company.

The forensic team is assessing the nature of fire. Preliminary CRPF investigations suggest heavy weapons were used in the attack.

“We did a combing operation of the area. The militants seemed to have taken advantage of the darkness,” said Kumar.

Late in the afternoon, suspected militants hurled a grenade in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara town injuring a CRPF jawan and a civilian. The injured jawan, identified as Ram Vilas Gujjar, belonged to CRPF’s 90th Battalion.
