The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday tersely asked the Central Reserve Police Force not to violate standard operating procedures following widespread allegations of excesses against civilians during curfew in the last two days.

"I fail to understand how they (CRPF) act independently when the standard operating procedure (SOP) has been set for them. I want to assure people that whoever indulges in excesses will face the music," Kashmir divisional commissioner Asghar Samoon said.

The message to the paramilitary force was delivered even as protests continued against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on February 9 and the death of a student in alleged firing by the army in Baramulla district on Tuesday.
