Fire breaks out at secretariat annexe in Srinagar

A fire broke out in a two-storeyed building on the premises of the civil secretariat at Srinagar on Thursday morning. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the blaze.

The building houses several administrative offices.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, and an inquiry has been ordered. No casualty has been reported so far.

Flames and smoke started billowing from the two-storey wooden structure adjacent to the main building of the civil secretariat minutes before the scheduled opening of the offices at 9.30am, officials said.

The building, which houses among other offices of the education department and medical dispensary, was engulfed in flames within no time, they said.

They said it was not clear whether any employee is trapped in the building even as fire tenders are trying to douse the flames.

We've had a fire in the annexe of the Sectt housing the offices of technical education, higher education, forest, accounts and treasuries.
