Militant killed in North Kashmir encounter: Army

A suspected militant was killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in North Kashmir, army said on Sunday.


The gunfight between militants and army was triggered on Saturday evening in a village of Uri sector in Baramulla district, some 80 km from Srinagar.

Army's Srinagar based spokesman Lieutenant Colonel JS Brar said that the operation began late last night and continued for 16 hours.

“A militant was killed in the gun fight which was found on Sunday morning. Search operation was still continuing,” Brar said.

The spokesman said that the identity of the slain militant was yet to be known.
