"We welcome the stepping down of Hosni Mubarak as the President of Egypt, bowing to the wishes and demands of the people. It has proved that people's aspirations cannot be suppressed for too long by using brute force," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said that history was filled with examples that dictators and autocratic rulers may have temporarily succeeded in "muzzling the the people's voice but in the long run, they have had to bow before the masses."

Lauding the Egyptian Army for exercising restraint while dealing with protesters, Mirwaiz alleged that in Kashmir "whenever people have demanded their rights and voiced just demands, the barrels of guns have been opened on them."

He also sought support from the international community for resolution of the Kashmir issue as "it was done in case of Egyptian people."
