A soldier was injured in North Kashmir's Handwara town on Saturday, when militants attacked troops in an advance group securing a road.
"We have troops deployed along the highway for highway corridor domination. As troops were taking their positions, militants fired some shots, in which one soldier was injured,'' an army official said.
The troops are generally deployed to clear and secure roads for any movement of the army convoy or VIPs. The jawan was shifted to base hospital in Srinagar and is stable.
"Immediately after the attack, the area was cordoned off and search is on to trace the militants," the official said. Sources in the army said that the militants managed to escape.
