Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa on Friday filed a complaint in a city court here seeking to take action against former Deputy chief minister and DMK Treasurer M K Stalin for his statements to the press last month "which are totally false and per se
defamatory."

Jayalalithaa's complaint filed on her behalf by the City Public Prosecutor (CPP) also sought to punish the Editor, Printer and Publisher of 'Tamil Murasu' daily for defamation under IPC sections 500 and 501 for publishing Stalin's December 2 press statement pertaining to her property in Kodanaadu and Siruthavur in the state.

Charging Stalin with filing a police complaint against the chief minister in retaliation for a complaint filed against him and his son S Udhyanidhi Stalin and others accusing them of land grabbing by one N S Kumar, owner of the property, the CPP submitted that the chief minister had no nexus with Kumar.

Since the complaint against Stalin and the others disclosed cognisable offences a case was registered and it was pending investigation, the CPP said.

Stalin's statements were 'false and malicious' and soley with the intention to malign the reputation of the chief minister, the complaint said, alleging that the statements allegedly touched the discharge of the functions and duties of the chief minister.

The contents in Stalin's statements constituted offences punishible under the IPC sections 500 and 501, the CPP said.
