In one of the speediest verdicts on cases related to sex scandals, the Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate's court on Thursday sentenced the prime accused in the 2009 Paravur sex scandal to life sentence for raping and pushing his minor daughter into flesh trade.
"A rabbit thrown before a pack of greedy jackals," the court said while delivering the verdict.
The 14-year-old (now 17) was made a sex slave by her junior artiste father, who first raped her and then started taking her to different film shoot locations and presented her to more than 200 persons for sexual services for money.
Along with the life term, C Sudheer will have to spend an additional 18 months in jail and pay a fine of Rs. 50,000 under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Thursday's is the first of 40 cases in Kerala in which the father is an accused.
When the girl refused to comply, the father threatened to post lewd video clips on the internet and kill her younger brother.
The sordid tale came to light only when the girl, who was undergoing treatment for sexually transmitted diseases in a local hospital, narrated her agony to a relative who in turn informed the police.
At least 46 witnesses deposed in the case in which the mother and her brother turned hostile later.
