A drunk Border Security Force (BSF) constable gunned down two of his colleagues and wounded another critically late on Tuesday in the remote Raisyabari area of Dhalai district. The killings at the Rajbari border outpost took place just ahead of the visit of BSF director-general Raman
Srivastava. He met chief minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday to discuss the measures taken to augment BSF installations in Tripura that shares 856km boundary with Bangladesh. Srivastava later said that Bangladesh had agreed to fence certain border areas.

Police said Constable Dhananjoy Kumar suddenly started firing from his automatic rifle, killing Sanjoy Kumar and Anil Kumar and injuring Mohammad Aslam Ali.

Sanjay Kumar died on way to Raisyabari a health centre and Anil Kumar succumbed after he was referred to the subdivision hospital at Gandacherra. Aslam Ali was admitted to the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala. The shootout made jawans run for life and caused rumours of extremists attacking the camp.

Dhananjoy has been detained.
