A day after a six-year-old girl was raped and murdered in an Aligarh village and police manhandled the protesting locals, the father of the victim demanded that the CM visit the village and terminate the senior superintendent of police and circle officer. He threatened to launch another agitation if no action was taken within 48 hours.
Meanwhile, the post mortem report confirmed rape of the minor girl, who went missing on Wednesday. Her dead body was recovered from a garbage dump. The victim's family alleged that she was strangulated after being sexually abused. The incident sparked violent protests by locals prompting police to use force.
Television footage showed CO AK Singh manhandling an elderly woman and SSP Amit Pathak made an insensitive comment. On Friday Singh and two constables were suspended on CM Akhilesh Yadav's orders. The SC/ST panel chief PL Punia, meanwhile, said the state commission will file a case against the SSP and CO.
The case evoked strong reactions from politicians, including BSP chief Mayawati, who demanded President's rule.
ADG, law and order, Arun Kumar, told HT, "In the preliminary inquiry I found that the police did use force on women and children, which is unfortunate."
