The Samajwadi Party on Sunday accused the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre of trying to corner party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav with the CBI probe (in a disproportionate assets case) always hanging in the air as a threat.

SP state spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said Yadav was facing such pressure because he took a stand against the quota in promotion bill and foreign direct investment.

“There have been efforts to trap Mulayam Singh Yadav by CBI. This is deplorable… It is clear that to suppress Mulayam’s opposition, pressure tactics are being used by the CBI,” Chaudhary said in a statement.
