The ashes of the 23-year-old woman who fought her rapists were immersed in the River Ganga at Bharauli ghat in Ballia district on Tuesday afternoon. Thousands of people turned up.

The ashes were brought to her ancestral village by her family on Monday evening.

As soon as the parents of the victim reached the village, a large number of people arrived there to pay their last tributes to the girl.

Her father and two brothers carried the urn containing the ashes from the house to Bharauli ghat.  Accompanied by a large number of villagers and relatives, they reached the ghat in the afternoon.

After the religious rituals were performed, the ashes were taken midstream on a steamer for immersion. After the rituals, the victim's father and brothers along with many others present there broke down.
