Accused of stealing a mobile phone, a 17-year-old boy was dragged from his house here on Wednesday night by a group of seven to eight people, tortured and then hanged.
Shintu Jha's body was discovered the next morning, hanging from the bathroom ventilator in a house in Arun Enclave, 1km away from his home.
His family, who live in the Elaichipur area of Loni town, have lodged a police complaint accusing 10 people of murder.
"We have arrested four of the accused," circle officer AK Yadav said.
Shintu was taken away by one Naeem - one of the arrested - and his accomplices at around 8.30pm Wednesday, the victim's mother, Sunaina Jha, said.
"They took him saying they would employ him for some routine job. But later, they tortured and hanged him," she said.
Local sources said Naeem's cellphone and some cash had been stolen a few days ago and he suspected Shintu to be behind it.
A neighbour reportedly alerted the police.
"We got the information in the morning. We went there and prima facie, it appears he was killed and later hanged," Yadav said.
Yadav denied the victim was also paraded with his hands and legs tied. But he added: "If these allegations are found correct, they will be included in the investigation."
