A jilted lover tried to kill a woman by mixing poison in her ice cream, the police said on Wednesday.

Sangeeta, an MBA graduate, was admitted to Kailash Hospital after consuming ice cream laced with mercury.

According to the police, the victim met her classmate Ravi Arya at Great India Place Mall on Monday.

Sangeeta, a resident of Sector 61, had a relationship with Arya. They broke-up their relationship after Arya was jailed in an attempt to murder case in Janakpuri in Delhi last year. “Arya, who was released on bail recently, called Sangeeta for a meeting and gave her ice-cream laced with mercury” said a police officer.

According to the doctors, Sangeeta is out of danger. Police have registered an FIR at sector 39 police station.
“Sangeeta earlier said that she tried to commit suicide. But when her parents came, she changed her statement, saying she was poisoned by her boyfriend as she ended the relationship. We are yet to arrest Ravi Arya,” said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police.
