The state Congress on Tuesday described the government’s scheme - Atal Jyoti Abhiyan - to provide 24-hour electricity supply in the state as a political gimmick and a fraud with the electorate of Madhya Pradesh.
State Congress chief Kantilal Bhuria said the BJP government was alluring the voters by giving them assurance of 24 hours electricity supply. Actually, he said, Atal Jyoti Abhiyan was being implemented under short-term power purchased agreement for which a provision of Rs. 17,000 crore has been made in the state budget. After the upcoming assembly elections, the state would plunge into darkness, Bhuria said.
Bhuria added that feeder separation work undertaken by the state government was being carried with the funds received under Rajeev Gandhi Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme and the chief minister was taking credit for it.
Congress activists, led by district Congress president PC Sharma, protested against the chief minister’s lie that 24 hours power supply would be ensured to everyone in the state. They also burnt the CM’s effigy and set on dharna at Board Office square to highlight the alleged hollow promises of the chief minister.
