He was addressing Indore Management Association (IMA) conclave on Sunday. Earlier, IMA chairman Ravi Mohan and other office-bearers handed over the business icon award to Birla.

Talking about transformational leadership, he explained the difference between transformation and change in cricket parlance saying that Sachin Tendulkar taking  retirement was a transformation whereas Indian cricket team going without Sachin is a change.

He talked about four transformational skills abbreviated as OIIA, which stands for observation, intuition, innovation and action. Birla said that the group's takeover of L&T's cement business was based on observation while intuition played a major role in acquisition of Novelis. Giving an example of innovation, he said the latest tune introduced by Idea "honey, bunny" was aimed at communicating with teenagers.

Earlier, All India Management Association (AIMA) director general Rekha Sethi congratulated IMA on completing its 50th year. She said that Indian entrepreneurs and Indian managers are ready to change and respond to the change.

Birla further said that for the success of an organisation, leadership is not required at top levels but across the company. In terms of employee satisfaction, the group stands at fourth place in world's top companies and first in Asia Pacific. He concluded by saying "world is our playground and the ball is in our court."
