Except for some pockets in northeast MP, the temperatures soared over normal mark in most parts of the state on Sunday. Rewa continues to be coldest place in the state at 3.4 degrees.

In Bhopal, day temperatures have recorded rise of 9.7 degrees in five days, while night temperatures have soared by 7.7 degrees in the same duration

On Sunday, the capital recorded maximum temperature December 16 December 20 December 24 December 25 January 1 January 4 January 8 January 12 January 13 of 28.8 degrees while the minimum was recorded at 12.9 degrees. Comparatively on January 8, the maximum temperature in city was recorded at 19.1 degrees while minimum was recorded at 5.2 degrees.

Although the temperatures were on rise since last two days, on Sunday conditions changed considerably as people were seen moving around without their woolens after a long time in the capital. Though the conditions turned a little cooler later in the evening, the day remained quite warm.

The sudden and sharp change is weather is being attributed to development of a western disturbance (WD) over Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.

"The WD has turned the wind direction to westerly and is also causing incursion of moisture over the state. This is leading to rise in temperatures," director of Regional Meteorological Centre DP Dubey told HT. The director further said the rising trend would continue for the next two to three days and though temperatures are likely to dip after that, it would not touch the levels experienced recently.

The sudden change in weather seems to be a norm this season as during the course of the last one month, temperatures have gone up and down several times - going considerably low and then suddenly soaring.

December remained unusually warm this season, but temperature dropped around December 20 and since then at least three phases of cold and warm conditions have been experienced in the state.

During the earlier part of last week, however, most parts in MP experienced extremely chilly weather, but the conditions have turned drastically during the last three days.
